As soon as the weather here allows, I want to repaint a horn. I would love to see photos of horns you have repainted using transparent colors, etc and perhaps a discussion of your techniques. Spraying vs hand brushing, etc.
I hope this will be fun!

In my experience it's nearly impossible to truly replicate an original painted horn finish. A typical repainted horn can be spotted across a room!
That said, when I had a cygnet horn whose paint was totally trashed I had Gregg Cline do one of his nice wood-grain jobs on it. I really like how it turned out!

This Columbia BKT horn was in sad shape, so a friend of mine (now deceased) wood grained it... I only wish I knew his exact technique...

Thanks! All of them look great! Does Greg try to match the color of your case when painting a horn?

Nothing fancy here. Just a stock Edison horn that I finished re-painting today. Waiting on the decals to arrive.

I agree with Jerry! What brand of paint did you use? Did you spray or brush? It really looks nice.
