Personally I'd go for a nic Columbia Q with 10inch nickel horn, how about you?

It wont let me vote. I'd pick a Gem though.

I'd take my reliable 2&4 minute Gem B. Plays a complete Blue Amberol every time. Jerry B.

The issue with the voting has been discussed a number of times, but I'll repeat it here for old times sake... The Poll Voting feature works only if your "My Board Style" in the user control panel is set to "prosilver". If set to "anachronist" the voting won't work. The issue can't be fixed due to the way the board is set up.

If you want to vote, switch your user preferences to prosilver, go to the poll and vote, then switch your preferences back to anachronist.

That's the only way to participate in the voting feature.

The voting is a waste of time. I tried to make this work, but it doesn't. I'll go with my Columbia Q. It is strong and robust. It's easy to use and less finicky than my Gem.

The premise of the question is flawed, in that there's a world of difference between the 1899-1900 Gems and the Model B Gems - to say nothing of the Model D and E Gems.

If you're talking about the early Gems using either of the first two "Gem Speakers," I'd take a Q any day.
A Model B/C Gem with a C reproducer is a decent machine, although the governors can be noisy. I couldn't decide between one of these Gems and a Q.

The Model D Gem with is 2/4 minute capability and Model K reproducer gives it the edge.

Thanks! I did not know that. I switched and it is working fine now.

I voted for the Gem, but I think that the Columbia Eagle would have been a better comparison. I would vote for the Eagle.
