2/4 Gearing For Edison Gem

Post by Joe Busam »

This item is currently on EBay. I was wondering if this is all that's needed for the 2/4 combination. If so does anyone know how to install it? Thanks.

Those gears are from a Gem D, which was made for 2&4 minute. Those wouldn't work to convert earlier Gems. The original combination attachment had a new longer back rod with gearing attached to one end, as well as a gear with a push-pull feature to switch back and forth.

Gem combination attachments are pretty scarce because the early Gems had such weak motors. Getting through a 4 minute cylinder was a challenge for Gem A, B, or C models.

Thanks so much for the information. I totally understand the rarity. My Gem is in excellent condition but I know it can only make it through one and a half 2 minute records without winding down. Something I hadn't considered.
