Nickel Plating advice

Post by Django »

I am restoring a very rough 1903 Type A Canadian Berliner. The plating was past salvaging and I have to produce some parts, so I will need to either do some plating, or have some nickel plating done. I am looking for advice regarding elector plating verses electroless. I was also wondering if I should do the plating myself or send it out. I see that there are brush electro-plating kits available for a very reasonable price, and Caswell electro and electroless kits available for more. I have to plate the edge of the turntable, traveling arm support and hardware, bullet brake and other assorted hardware. Any references for plates or equipment, or personal experiences would be appreciated.

Thanks

I have been dealing with Micro-Mark for many years. Below is the link for their plating kit. They specialize in hard to find tools and fittings. They are primarily for model builders, but a lot of their products can be used for phonographs, also. They are great to deal with.

Search this website - I remember seeing some articles on DIY bright nickel plating that seemed very practical. It may be possible to tone down the appearance afterward. Nickel bars can be found on eBay.

Adam posted a great tutorial on nickel plating and I put it into a PDF document. Download it here:
