Is My Diamond B Reproducer Quiet?

Post by 12jslater »

How loud should my diamond b reproducer be in comparison to say a model c reproducer? The diamond b has been rebuilt with new gaskets and the diamond is good.

Thanks, Jake

It is my experience that a Diamond B should be louder than a model C. Maybe the diaphragm isn't any good?

The Diamond B should be louder than the Model C. The diaphragm is bigger for more volume. It is designed for the Blue Amberols and 4 min. indestructibles. Also the weight is heavier, too. The only comparison is the volume. The C is for 2 min. and the B is for 4 min. If the C sounds louder in volume than your B, then the reproducer was rebuilt wrong.

The diamond b is louder by a bit however it doesn't have as much full sound as I have heard from others.

Thanks, Jake

Try slightly loosening the compression ring. You can probably do this without removing the reproducer from the carriage. Just place your fingers at the 3:00 and 9:00 positions (thumbs above fingers), and rotate the ring a few degrees. Sometimes a slight movement of the compression ring can make a big difference.

In my own experience the Diamond B should be louder than a Model C and also have better fidelity. It should sound as good as the Diamond A on an Opera or a Diamond C on an Amberola 30. If not, then it is out of adjustment. I have all those models to compare.
