This plate shown is aluminum. The data on it is very shallow. What I have done is polish with a dremel tool to polish the open parts of aluminum. Then I would use flat black enamel with a very fine brush to fill in the missing black. After everything is done to your satisfaction, I would us Krylon spray clear to seal everything. It is somewhat time consuming, but the results are worth it.

If you want to go easy but the job will look better but not as good as pulling it out for work. You can get some fine black pens and brushes to fix it. Just take you time tracing around all the letters. It is a pain you will be wiping off a lot of errors. Tom B
