Decca records are later 78s that are made from a different compound than acoustically recorded shellac records... Your machine is designed for shellac 78s that were made from the early 1900s up until the early 1930s. The sweet spot for shellac recordings (in my opinion) is from the early 1920s to about 1931... Earlier than that, the records may be noisier and a little crude, after that the composition changed with electrically recorded records which put a drag on steel needles, as they were designed to play with sapphire or diamond stylii and light weight cartridges on electric machines. So if you like swing or big band records, you need to play them on a modern turntable... There are many great jazz recordings from the 1920s which will give you lots of choices to play, you just may not be as familiar with them.
