Just picked up a Edison Standard for $100. Belt is stretched and the on/off lever will not stay off. Is there some sort of friction device that fits under the screw in the middle to stop it from releasing? Thanks

Re: Edison Standard On/off
First, The Standard will need a new belt. Second, try tightening the screw that holds the off/on lever. It could be loose. If that doesn't work, check the leather stop on the end of the lever. It may need to be replaced or adjusted. Good luck with it.

If the screw is tightened all the way, and the brake still won't hold, you might try putting a thin leather washer between the casting and the lever.

Re: Edison Standard On/off
Thanks for the tips - put a thin piece of copper under it and working ok. Tried making a new belt, came up a tad short and the belt was too tight and the machine would not run.
