Inspired by all this DIY mainspring repair, I did my first one tonight in my baasement workshop! I took it out, cleaned all the old caked on grease off, re-lubued it, and put it back in. My shoulders are tired, but it works fine!

But no one here mentioned the true danger in doing this--tracking grease onto your wife's light colored carpeting! She's not home from work yet, but I'm just wondering if I can move in with one of you until she simmers down? :?

Its funny, I was very careful not to drip on our carpet but somehow 2 drops got on the
carpet anyways. I used soap and water to get as much as I could and then I used some of
that GOJO hand cleaner for getting grease off your hands. It works good on the carpet too!
Congrats on your first spring cleaning! No pun intended. hehe.
