I am working on a VV-IV and discovered that the pin which keeps the winding gear from moving on the shaft is gone. Looking for advice on how to replace it. I can make a pin, but it is not clear to me what keeps it from falling out? Whatever it is, it did not work on this one!!!

Is it just a press fit? Lock Tite? Also, is the choice of material important? I only have mild steel on hand

It's been a long time since I had done this. I used music wire or piano wire you can get a good hobby shop. I'm not sure of the dimensions, so you would have to bring the gear. Cut to the proper length with a Dremel tool. You want a tip like on the picture in case you have to remove it. You want a snug fit. The rod is very hard. Clean the hole with alcohol and let dry. After the pin is mounted, use ACC to secure it. In case you have to remove it, Jasco epoxy remover will do the trick This repair should last another 100 years.

Thanks, Harvey. I decided to go the easy way and just braze it back together.
