I put a new spring in a single spring Victrola. It is extremely difficult to crank the motor now. It runs strong and long, but is is very difficult to crank and requires two hands.
Is this normal and if so, do the springs break in over time and does the phono become easier to crank?

Re: New Spring
It's certainly not normal to have to use two hands to crank a motor.
I've never come across this situation before, so I can only guess that the wrong spring has been installed, or something hasn't been put together right.
If the spring was too wide for instance, it may cause excessive drag on the barrel, but it probably wouldn't run very well either, so I think it might have more to do with assembly.
Which Victor motor is it?
(or are you using the term victrola for some other off-brand machine?)
