Edison Amberola 30 brake

Post by eighteenbelow »

Hi, everyone. I have an Amberola 30 that works perfectly except for the brake, which doesn't seem to works at all. I have tried to get a picture of the underside of the brake lever so I can see what's missing -- a pad of some kind, I assume -- but I can't. Can someone out there send me a picture or two of what a functional brake lever should look like? And if anyone has any tips for buying or making what mine is missing, those would be most appreciated. Thank you!

Have you removed the gear cover? That will give you a view of the business end of the brake.

There should be a felt pad that contacts the governor disc: it may need to be replaced.

Thanks, Bill. I have removed the gear cover, and also the grille, and I still can't seem to get a good look at it. I'm guessing you're right about the felt pad; any suggestions for what to use, or what size it should be?
