Note on centering mica!

Post by PeteLeoni »

I don't know if this has ever been covered,. After rebuilding 4 #2 Victor reproducers, I have noted that the hole for the needle bar mica center screw is drilled ever so slightly off center.

This is a good thing however, because it allows rotating it about that axis and thus centering it in the new gaskets and compensating for minor needle bar height variation.
Obviously this is done after replacing the screw and before spring adjustment seal waxing and back cover lock down. Makes a big difference in low frequency response.
I am probably re-sharing common knowledge but you never know, it doesn't hurt to remind people. I very much enjoy getting the best out of these for folks.
