Impossible Restoration Techniques
"The phonograph is not of any commercial value."
Thomas Alva Edison - Comment to his assistant, Samuel Insull.
"No one needs a Victrola XX, a Perfected Graphophone Type G, or whatever you call those noisy things."

Re: Impossible Restoration Techniques
WD 40. Don't tell anyone but I attempt to keep a bicycle from the sixties alive with it. I also use it to ungum old oil before replacing it with the only slightly less controversial 3-in-One Electric Motor Oil which is SAE 20 weight. I use that even on my treadle sewing machine, and plenty of it, and it still hasn't spontaneously combusted or anything else that would force me to join a sewing machine group and apologize to a bunch of old ladies with electric Berninas.
My favorite forbidden restoration technique is scraping old finishes with glass or razors instead of using sandpaper.
