That record may be "rare", since it probably doesn't exist. I can't find any reference to a 78 record titled: "Doin' the New Town Lowdown" by Lawrence Welk.

Not to be mean, but if it does exist, why would anyone want it?

I grew up having to listen to that on our only TV and do not have fond memories of Mr. Champagne Music and his bubbles...

Your search may be problematic as you have the incorrect title. It's actually "Doin' The New Lowdown". It was also released on Champion under the pseudonym George Tucker & His Novelty Orchestra.

You are right, using the correct title does make a difference:

Pat Dollohan And His Orch.* – Sweethearts On Parade / Lawrence Welk's Novelty Orch.* ‎- Doin' The New Low Down
Label: Gennett ‎– 6697

Format: Shellac, 10", 78 RPM
Country: US
Released: Feb 1929

I think it's strange that Lawrence Welk's 78 discography does not mention this title... :?

It does exist. It was on Youtube a number of years ago, but I don't know if it is still there. It was recorded in November, 1928 in a hod dance style typical of the time - very different than that of Welk's TV band of the 1950s.

Lawrence Welk and his Orchestra: Doin' The New Lowdown Gennett mx 14434B Nov. 17, 1928. Issued on Gennett 6697, Champion 15638.

Also recorded on Nov. 16, 1928 were mx 14431, Spiked Beer (Gennett 6712, Champion 15639). Mx 14431B, Spiked Beer and 14432 Shanghai Honeymoon were coupled on Gennett 20341.

Info per Jazz Records by Brian Rust.

I have heard both Doin' the New Lowdown and Spiked Beer and would definitely like to have both in my collection. Best of luck in your search.

Jim

This may be a difficult record to find, and possibly not cheap. Sorry, don't mean to be a buzzkill. Hot jazz on Gennett Electrobeam's tend to get crazy...However, you have fine tastes in music! :D

Money is not the issue here..
The record is for someone else who has money..
If I had that kinda money I would not be so cheap.
I'll let him know you complimented his music choice.
Thanks for the link.
