WANTED: your nasty phono parts

Post by EdisonWizard »

Learned a few things recently and I'm wanting to try and practice on some parts before I work on some machines. Being that I'm still young, I feel it would be great to get proficient in restoration and maintenance on these machines, as I wouldn't mind helping others locally get their stuff up and running, or redoing reproducers. (Someone's gonna have to do it in the next generation!) With that being said if you have any old nasty parts taking up space let me know! I want to see if I can make them look good again :)

This is where I got my start repairing phonograph motors in 2012. It is a 6 part YouTube video. It is a fairly precise tutorial for taking apart and reassembling a common Victrola 2 spring motor. After looking at this 6 part video, just remember that all phonograph motors have only 3 components, 1) Spring Barrel, 2) Governor, 3) Spindle. (Except for cylinder machines which have a gear cluster instead of a spindle).

This is the first video:

have fun!

And except for disc machines which have an additional gear or gears between the spring barrel and the spindle (early Victors, Talk-o-phones, Columbias, etc.)...
