FOR SALE: 10" Victor Scroll 22338 H.M. Kings Speech January 1930 - $60

Recorded at the opening of the five power navel conference in London on January 21, 1930

Excellent E to E+ shiny condition with photographs of King V pasted on both labels by Victor.

This is an especially rare pressing as this was recorded and issued right in the middle of the great depression when Americans were not buying records.

I am pleasantly surprised that Victor issued the speeches of H.M.King George V at all.

I have several of the HMV royal issues, including the 1930 speech, but have yet to find the rare Columbia record of the King's speech at the opening of the Tyne Bridge in 1928 with it's wonderfully illustrated pressing. A copy sold on eBay in 2011 for £77.

I think this is a must have if you don’t already own a copy. I also have the earlier 1923 Victor speech, and a couple of the “Message to the Empire” Christmas Day HMV recordings, 1934 & 1935 I think. I find them fascinating, and you really can hear his voice age over time (probably the cigarettes!)
