Re: WANTED: Edison Long Play 40 minute record
Last weekend I was lucky enough to hear examples of both 10 and 12 inch Edison Long Playing records at the home of a fellow collector. The 10 inch record 10006R "Hello Bluebird" was louder and clearer than the 12 inch 30004L "Casse Noisette Suite". This may be because the 12 inch record had been dubbed from standard length discs originally recorded in 1918, when shortages of raw materials resulted in variable quality of the end product.

epigramophone,
Thanks for the information with regard to the 40 minute LP. It appears even though Edison was really trying to push the technology by putting 20 minutes of music on a single side of the record, he just didn't have the best raw materials available to make these type of records.
