Re: FOR SALE: WW1 records: First Aid French, Wireless, etc
The Nation's Forum record is certainly noteworthy for the speech by Pershing (and his autograph in the run-out) on one side, but even more so for what's on the flip side.
It's the incredible speech by James Gerard Jr, the then-recently ejected US ambassador to Germany, which includes this lovely little jewel of jingoism:
"The Foreign Minister of Germany once said to me 'your country does not dare do anything against Germany, because we have in your country five hundred thousand German reservists who will rise in arms against your government if you dare to make a move against Germany.' Well, I told him that that might be so, but that we had five hundred thousand – and one – lamp posts in this country, and that that was where the reservists would be hanging the day after they tried to rise."
(Same guy later lauded a German author, who had written a book entitled "My Struggle" and who was elected their Chancellor in 1933, as "doing much for Germany.")
It's really quite an interesting artifact.

Hello folks,
As a working for no pay Federal employee I am extremely open to offers if anyone wants these;)
I am in South Carolina and also have a 1915 or so Schloss “tea cart” stand for a Victrola VV-IX (with the IX) and a 4-3 along with hundreds of records. If anyone is hiring let me know!

That is a great quote Peter. In James Gerard Jr's defense Hitler was doing a lot for Germany in the early days (getting people out of the bread lines and such). In his book review of Mein Kampf he also condemned Hitler's anti-Semitism by saying, "We have all of us a right to criticize, to boycott a nation which reverts to the horrible persecutions of the Dark Ages, we have a right to form a blockade of public opinion about this misguided country..." Of note, he said all of this in 1933 before most of the west (including Chamberlin) were condemning Hitler for the monster he was.
