1927 Victor Automatic Orthophonic Victrola
Model VE 10-50 X – S/N 7473
This machine has been in our family since it was purchased in the late 1920’s. The Victrola has not been used for 20-plus years and has only served as a “focal point” in the family living room.

-The Victrola and “Close Door While Playing” decals, and gold plated identification plate are in excellent shape. The certificate of authenticity stamp is intact and legible on the underside of the cabinet.
-The three front doors and three back panels are in good working condition and the horn grille and grill cloth are in good shape. The pot metal on the changer is cracked and will need to be replaced.

Re: Wanted: Victor 10-50
Don't know if this is still available, but it's been up for sale for some time now in the San Francisco area:

This is in restored condition, which means that all parts, including the changer, are in working condition, and all crumbling pot metal parts have been replaced. (I've read that replacement parts for the changer are no longer being made, so you might want to take this into consideration, if you want a working example.)

Re: Wanted: Victor 10-50
Some of the parts to replace the pot metal are still available. I just rec'd the lift pad, record size changer knob, and record holder part (sorry, can't remember the correct names).
However the one offered by Carsten (sanfranphono) is sure to be in excellent working order. He is very meticulous in his restorations from what I've seen and heard.
If you decide to go for the one in CO, I have the contact info for the parts and can supply that.

Carsten Victor 10-50 is sold. The one on Craigslist needs too much work and missing parts. I rather purchase one with nice original finish, complete, and working properly

Re: Wanted: Victor 10-50
I believe that at least at the end of last year, the maker still had some left of all the important pot metal replacement parts (aluminum) -except- the 10"/12" selector gears and gears base. I would not fret over any of these still-available parts being missing if it's otherwise the machine you want, but verify the repro guy indeed still has them first of course. If missing, they most likely crumbled, fell off and were tossed - magazine arm base; lift pad; tonearm collar; selector handle.
Getting my changer working again cost about $400 in those parts and was quite an adventure, but well worth it. Some of the repro parts WILL require some refining and trimming for the changer to work reliably, and lots of tweaking/testing too.
Good luck!
Marky

Thanks Marky for the info. That is a challenge I really do not want to undertake.
