Hi Folks,

I have a very nice set up for sale. I have a Banner front Edison standard (has been restored) with a very rare PhonArm attachment. I understand that this is 1 of 3 known for the standard. When I received the arm, it was missing the tone arm portion, but it retained the horn hold down screw and Y plate. I had a restorer friend make up the tone arm section and it turned out great. He had just finished restoring the Standard, so I bought it to use with this set up so that I could have it working true. The horn elbow is one of Ron Sitko replacements and the horn is from a Victor. The horn would really pop with a John Duffey cleaning, but I have my eye on another project and would like to move on to it right now. Ask any questions..Machine and set up plays great and works just as it should. Decal on the Edison is not the best. Ask any questions..Don’t really know a basis for pricing, but the last one I saw had an estimate of $3500. I am asking $2600/reasonable offer plus actual shipping..Ask any questions.

Thanks for looking,

Joe

Very nice machine. Is the elbow slot the same as a Victor? Is that a Victor Horn? It would be interesting if this was short lived because of a patent infringement lawsuit. I know that happened to Talk-O-Phone with their rear mount machines.

Here’s a close up of where the horn elbow mates with bracket. It is a very similar design to the Victor. The elbow that I use and that others have used is a Victor elbow. In this case, I have also used a Victor horn and others have used aftermarket Victor horns. I believe that in the original instructions, the company even advised cutting down your present cylinder horn to use. I am unsure as to if the company supplied elbows universally or only as needed.

Harvey;

There are some forum threads about the Phon-Arm attachment. I also have a Phon-Arm for the Edison Standard, which I posted as a featured phonograph (see below). These are great players. They were short-lived attachments, making them exceedingly rare. Columbia produced a line of tonearm cylinder players beginning in 1908, while the Phon-Arm was already available in 1907. Edison did toy with the idea of manufacturing a swinging tonearm configuration in 1909, but this was abandoned in favor of the cygnet horn later in 1909.
