Back in the day you could buy detailed plans or "do it yourself" kits to build a talking machine. I suspect this was built from plans by a good craftsman.

A friend of mine had a very similar one. It used rear mount style Zonophone parts cleverly adapted to the "inside horn" set-up of an upright machine.

It is amazing the quality of work that people in the 20s and 30s could do with the limited tools and resources. Then again I look at what the Egyptians crafted with less and can see people can use the skills to accomplish a lot. Tom B

I run a CNC machine at work, i think sometimes a manual operated machine, by a skilled craftsmen can be better. The CNC machine is loaded with many parts (mine makes 12 at a time) , each part has little variations, they meet military specifications, but do not always meet my own personal specifications, they do meet work specs, so when you are at work that is what you go by.
