I'm scratching my head over why an eBay/ CL alert should be prohibited when the item is, in fact, offered on eBay/ CL.

What difference should it make who owns it?

My opinion is that we're entering micromanagement based entirely on personal preferences here. While I have my personal preferences too, I realize they may not be everybody else's.

I'm OK with it as it is.
Please read my suggestion again - I never said anything about anything being prohibited. Some people list things here that belong to them. Some people list things that don't belong to them. I have no problem with either. I simply think in the interest of clarity and communication we should be stating which it is. Yes, in some cases you can tell this for ebay, but you can't for Craigslist.

Among other reasons, I don't want to bother someone by requesting more info or possibly making an offer for something that doesn't belong to them.

I read and responded to the follow up to your suggestion in which you state

"Yes, anything you own and offer for sale - at a fixed price - should go to Yankee Trader."

That's why I quoted THAT post and responded to it. I disagree.

That is the rule for posting items on Yankee Trader. What are you disagreeing with?

Quoting the post at the top of Yankee Trader:
1) Ads placed in the Yankee Trader section should be items you have for sale, or are looking to buy.

2) Do not post links to eBay or Craigslist ads in this section. These types of posts should go here.

We're not talking about the Yankee Trader section here- are we?

Seems we're going round in circles.

Just to clarify, my suggestion is indeed regarding the Auctions and Craigslist forum, and was due to the fact that some people who list things here own those things and some do not. My suggestion is simply to indicate whether your alert is to something you own or not so that further communications can take place with the appropriate parties. That's all.

As a response to my suggestion, this question was asked:
If it's theirs shouldn't it be placed in yankee trader instead?
To which I responded, in line with forum rules for Yankee Trader:

"Yes, anything you own and offer for sale - at a fixed price - should go to Yankee Trader."

Note please the words "at a fixed price". This was intended to clarify that what you wish to sell at a fixed price belongs in Yankee Trader, as opposed to auctions, which do indeed belong here in Auctions and Craigslist alerts. Sorry if that was confusing.

So you're saying that if I offer something for sale at a fixed price I shouldn't be allowed to use eBay or CL and link it to here? I HAVE to use Yankee Trader?

Sorry, but that brings us right back to micromanagement.

You are reading waaaay more into this than I ever intended...

I've made a suggestion. You're against it. That's fine. I'm moving on.

No worries. The rules will wind up being whatever Brandon decides anyways.

I was just interpreting what you were saying literally is all. I haven't attempted to get inside anyone else's head since marriage demonstrated the futility of that to me. Sorry if I misinterpreted what you were saying.
