Amazing to hear your relatives once owned one of these. The two speed feature on this machine is quite interesting. Wish early RCA 33 ½ records were easier to come by!gramophone-georg wrote:Love it.
My grandparents bought one of these changers new in the 30s. Theirs was a two speed- 78 and 33. By the time I came along it was in their basement, replaced in the living room by a Magnavox Concert Grand. The RA machine was fascinating to watch and I've always wanted one.
Congrats.

I have a couple extra Nat Shilkret semi- classical issues of these if you are interested. They are the 10" size too so you can use them with the changer as if I recall 12" ones need to be played manually, right?ketron281989 wrote:Amazing to hear your relatives once owned one of these. I must say, the guys in Camden really outdid themselves when they designed that cabinet. Beautiful restoration, and thanks for sharing!
Let's see, $600 in 1931, I guess they sold, what, three of them?

These machines are quite rare considering a car could be purchased for the same price! RCA's most expensive and impressive unit in 1931 was the Radiola Automatic Electrola model 79. $600 is a lot back then, try $1,000.00 new!drh wrote:I must say, the guys in Camden really outdid themselves when they designed that cabinet.
