Trick for playing shrunken 2 minute indestructibles

Post by GrafonolaG50 »

I use an Ediphone reproducer to play my Indestructibles, especially the shrunken ones. The spring on it keeps it from skipping as badly by keeping the stylus where it belongs and it actually sounds pretty good (rebuilt). If they're severely shrunken, I use a Model H.

Hmm what I need to know is how to get them on the mandrel when they are shrunk. Now I am talking the cardboard centers. May not be the same ones you are talking about.

I have used a reamer on them with a little success. It sands the metal and cardboard. Tom B

I recently tried reaming my two minute indestructible and Everlasting cylinders with success. The reamer I used was bought at Naucks and works great. I had about six to eight I was not able to fit on to the mandrel until I used the reamer. Now they fit correctly and play wonderfully. I had bought a two minute Edison machine so was forced to try it and it worked for me. The metal parts are not in the way and cardboard was reamed with ease. Took but a minute or two to do each cylinder.

Yes, I have used a reamer with great success. You have to do it slowly, and do not rush it.

Rather than using an Ediphone reproducer I use an Indestructible Model-N reproducer. They produce greater volume due to the fact the stylus is spring loaded.

For you Columbia collectors, The AZ, and the B series Lyric machines, play these loud and clear. Not to mention the little BV machine.
