Arghh! And here I'd been monitoring the shopgoodwill site all last week (won an old telephone). But, I did not see this phono in the offings or I'd certainly have bid on it. I'm only about 3 hours away from Sacramento! Ah well, ya win some, ya lose some . . .

I ran across it when it had 6 minutes left and by the time I could get it posted there was only 2 minutes left. I knew it was too late for anyone that was near the thing.

I found it a few days in advance, but didn't know how to get onto the Forum then. Well, I'd already bid on an Amberola 30.
Look for words like: "Graphophone." That's what it was under. Look for "Graphaphone." There was a repro "Primaphone" straight outta Calcutta on there. "Phonograph." Tons and tons of awesome Silvertone & Harmony/Columbia portables, even a Viva-Tonal machine. "Edison." A Standard B, two Amberolas (I got the complete one). "Turntable." A Vic 50.
We'll have to unpack our--well, not adjectives, synonyms!
Carry on!

How the heck does this stuff find its way to Goodwill? I mean, are "kids" cleaning out gram's house and they say to each other, "nah, this old piece of junk.....just give it to charity."

It would be bad enough if it was “ charity”, but Goodwill is a for profit business disguised as a charity...

I've wondered the same. I also fancy vintage radios and noticed that the Milwaukee shopgoodwill has a veritable treasure trove of semi-rare Zenith consoles and the like. I think as well it's just a matter of inheritors saying they want to dispose of the stuff in one fell swoop and have no knowledge of the value. I suppose that's a plus for we collectors; I've found some pretty sweet stuff in thrift stores!MicaMonster wrote:How the heck does this stuff find its way to Goodwill?
