Victor Talking Machine Co. Delivery Truck - 2017 Edition!

Post by HisMastersVoice »

Just a little something I picked up today, courtesy of Craigslist...3 Victrola shipping crates that have been in an attic in Ann Arbor, MI since new. There are 2 Colony crates and 1 Granada crate. The house belonged to a local Doctor, so I guess he had the means to have more than 1. Even better, they were distributed by Grinnell Bros. in Detroit and sold by University Music Shop in Ann Arbor. I love local history! Now what to do with them....

I have a friend who has one flattened and mounted on his living room ceiling. It looks great.

I mounted mine on a wall in my Garage. They are up out of the way but visible. It is kind of crazy how much of my collection is in the garage. I ran out of room in the house when I moved in 2 years ago.

Great find!!! I am in the process of building a Model A Ford delivery vehicle to be logo-ed with Nipper. I have a crate for an XI with the machine inside that will be on display with it when I am done. It all started with finding a Nipper radiator ornament.

Speaking of Grinnels', is anybody familiar with the Grinnels in Benton Harbor Michigan? I use to go there when I was a kid for sheet music. My brother also bought his first drum kit there.

I say you just throw them ugly things away. They are useless wooden boxes. As a matter of fact, since I'm a good guy and all I will even go pick them up to take them to the trash for you

Very cool, Brandon! I really like shipping crates, and I'd be embarrassed to tell you how many are here. Part of their charm is that they really shouldn't have survived. :)

Congratulations!
