Columbia Personal Records

Post by Gramtastic »

hi, I have recently seen this on Ebay and haven't seen one before. Can anyone give me any info on "Personal Records" ? I guess they are unusual or is it just that not many made it to the UK ? Thanks

Personal records could be made for a fee to anyone who wanted to have one made.

Roland Hayes was a black concert singer who made these personal records and then sold them privately by mail order as he was not officially under contract to Columbia. Eventually Columbia gave him a contract. Apparently they had turned him down earlier on.
