Nipper Collectibles The Movie

Post by melvind »

In 2007 while working on their 1st of what would become 3 books on Nipper Collectibles, Joan and Robin Rolfs made a cute little video highlighting some of the contents of the 1st book. With their kind permission I posted their video on YouTube. I think it is very nice historical document and overview of the various Nippers that have existed since the beginning up to more recent years.

If you don't have their books consider buying them. They are a great resource and are beautiful just to browse through. http://my.athenet.net/~nipper/

Interesting. The word only exists in our time, but nipper became somewhat of a "meme".

Thanks for posting.

Keeping in the theme of Nipper I posted two videos on YouTube of a 1952 45 rpm record with "Little Nipper Riddles" on one side and "The Little Nipper March" on the other. I was reminded of the March when I heard it on the Rolfs video. This record has kind of an interesting history. It was created in 1952 and was used as part of a New York City contest for kids. They were asked to solve the riddles on the record and write a short essay to have the chance to win an actual Nipper puppy. The 1st hundred got puppies and the next 1000 got rubber Nipper dogs. Below the video links there is an image that shows a clipping from a February 1952 Billboard magazine explaining the contest.

And finally... The 2012 HMV Nipper and Gramophone Christmas digital animated shorts. Kinda cute but its Christmas time and kitsch is the norm.
