Long-hairs play Bix Beiderbecke ???

Post by De Soto Frank »

This was shared on You-tube by Norman Field... a "misterious" test-pressing from the mid-1930's of Beiderbecke's "In a Mist", performed by a woodwind-ensemble (flute, oboe, French Horn, Bassoon, and a harpsichord (presumably one of Pleyel's "iron monsters", a la Wanda Landowska).

The wind players are very probably classically-trained, and don't "Swing" really well... their playing if kind of square-bottomed ;)

Also, the "mix" (in this case arrangement of players relative to the single (?) mic) is not terrific...

But what an odd treasure... reminds me of Darius Milhaud's works for winds...

Not surprising Frank. I'm a great lover of Beethoven, Brahms, Bach and Bix!!
Interesting find.
Thanks.
