My Amberola 30 was looking rather rough due to the orange rust starting on the horn where people used it as a queuing arm. I put motor oil on 0000 steel wool, polished it down, and then took some old grease partially dissolved in mineral spirits, that I had found when I was working on a Brunswick motor. The grease protects the bare metal from rusting again and makes it black again.
Give it a try and see how you like it.
