HMV 101 Resurrection

Post by Gramtastic »

I recently came across what had been a blue "Moc Croc" finish HMV 101 but which had been painted all over in gloss black ! (I mean all over, including metal work, handle etc) I decided it deserved better than that so set about scraping the black paint off it little by little with a blunt knife! Talk about a labour of love... After several evenings in the man shed, I emerged with a half decent Blue Moc Croc 101. Amazingly the finish underneath was really good so why anyone should have taken what was actually a more expensive finish and try to make it look like a cheaper black model I guess we will never know. Thought you might like to see the transformation

I had a customer who would buy HMV coloured portables in OK / good condition , he would show them to me next week painted in Dulux Gloss paint and how much better they looked now

That's a very nice restoration!
I think machines sound better when they look nice! :D

Your patience has been well rewarded. Many would have dismissed the machine as beyond restoration.
