Here's a better frame grab.
It's a pretty ugly Frankenphone, the Nipper may be a late one.

Much better frame shot. As you said at least the nipper looks real.

The new crime show "The Alienist" plays in NYC of 1896 and had several short sightings of phonographs, even though they tend to utilize back mount outside horn disk machines that came 10 years later.
