Happy 145th Birthday to Enrico Caruso
Caruso would have been 145 years old today. Play some records in his honor!

Happy Birthday Enrico! I just listened to one of his recordings but then I do that on many days. The best tenor of the 20th century!

Loved that voice since I was 13. He and Galli-Curci and Ponselle and Ruffo (and many others added to the list since) were my heroes. Still play their records regularly.
Bravo Caruso!

My rarest Caruso disc--and never will be played with a steel needle!Viva-voce wrote:Loved that voice since I was 13. He and Galli-Curci and Ponselle and Ruffo (and many others added to the list since) were my heroes. Still play their records regularly.

^ Those Fons turntables are supposed to be quite good. I guess that's an SME arm it's got ? Nice.
Oh, right, Happy Birthday, Errico ! And many more !

Thanks! it's the best table I've ever owned and I have had it for many years. Very good build quality and it does everything I need it to do. Belt-driven, and even has separate variable pitch controls for each of the 3 speeds. And yup it's an SME arm.Wolfe wrote:^ Those Fons turntables are supposed to be quite good. Yes, that is a nice, clean example. I don't own any myself.
Ward Marston notes that the recording machine wasn't functioning correctly for all the Caruso Zonophone sides. Apparently the pitch needs to be brought down gradually as the records play. Of course, it seems that's a not so uncommon problem with those old weight driven lathes.
