Edison Discs Recorded With the 40' and 125' Recording Horns

Post by rhammond »

On another site, we have been having a discussion about the records recorded at the Edison Columbia Street recording studios with regard to those done with the 40' horn and the famous 125" horn. A lot of experimental recording of one kind or another was done at the Columbia studios and they did remain intact after Edison closed the recording division. In Ray Wile"s Edison Diamond Disc Recreations Records and Artists, 1910 to 1929, he has a very brief section that talks about the Columbia Street studios and these unusual recording horns complete with pictures. According to Wilie, these horns were in use from 1923-1926. According to Wilie, 43 recordings were released that used one or the other of these horns. Does any one have a specific list of the 43 record titles and numbers-not the matrix numbers- but the issue titles and numbers?. The first was "Ma Medley by Ernest Stevens and that was made with the 40 foot horn.

In short, is not liberty the freedom of every person to make full use of his faculties, so long as he does not harm other persons while doing so?
