Columbia Q Recently Purchased

Post by Jerry B. »

Here's a really fine Columbia Q that is new to my collection. It's so new that I have not checked the actual Q designation. I really like the fact that the cardboard box has survived and is in such good shape. Imagine how carefully the original owner must have to carefully unlatch the lid and lay the lid behind the mechanism to avoid damage. It came with the listening device and an original Columbia catalog. Can someone suggest a source for the rubber hose that connects from the reproducer to the ear piece?

Thanks, Jerry Blais

I love the QB. It is definitely very hard to find in even halfway decent condition. The thin cardboard did not hold up to a century-plus of abuse.

You have part of the original connector for listening tubes. Than metal cover originally had a gutta percha tube going through the hole on top, with a tapered piece of some sort of material (wood? rubber? I can't tell) that held it in place and also made a tight fit to the inside of the horn tube.

That little tapered piece is white rubber.

Here's a thread from just over a year ago on the QB:

Nice addition to your collection Jerry. They are hard to find in that condition.

As a good college football fan I should be able to remember "QB." And I'll add the rubber tubing to my Union shopping list for Ron. Thanks!

Wow... hard to believe that pressed cardboard case survived the years so well!

At least you referred to it as a purchase and not a 'find' this time... you learns fast! Good on ya! ;)
