Post by GeorgeDixon »

It is approximately one or two more bump or twist from crumbling...

I do not think you are quite right. I have seen such examples. Here eg.:

I have a question, so would these just be poor "sand" castings, or die-cast "pot" metal? Were all Bettini's castings?

The same seller has an additional carriage... in better shape.

And here is another obvious swelling pot metal example.

Real Bettinis (IIRC) would have had the signature on them, and certainly weren't made of pot metal. There were some cheap knock-offs, sometimes marketed by Columbia, I believe: these are most likely examples of the latter.

I believe Pathé manufactured these attachments under license from Bettini.

Im not sure this proves your point...looks like pot metal components to me.
There are some aluminum examples, but they are definitely in the minority.
Columbia and Pathé both had similar examples. I am not sure if one had more pot metal examples than the others.

Bettinis are generally marked as such, although the early examples have very few markings and some just have numbers and/or letters.

The second example also has pot metal issues with attempted repair at one end, and overall pot metal expansion.
