Is there a good record price guide?

Post by Dave D »

I wonder if someone can recommend a good price guide to 78 rpm records? I have so many records, but I would like to find out if any of them are worth anything before getting rid of them.
Thanks!

I've never seen any and I doubt it will ever exist. Even the best ones focus on only one country and one specific musical style, and contain lots and lots of mistakes and personal idiosyncrasies of the author.

I suggest you search eBay for completed sales (possibly auctions) to get an idea of the value of a record.

Les docks' "American Premium Record Guide" is the closest to a decent price guide out there, but it is definitely not definitive. There are whole genres that Docks omits and many of his prices are unrealistic.

As Marco said, check to "Sold" listings on ebay. Also popsike.com.

yes completed eBay are a decent place to look ,....but even that is not perfect .I have bought several hundred records off there in the past few years.....seems like the “normal “ range for late twenties records is 15 to 95 dollars for E to E+ sweet or hot discs , my high for a single non blues one is 300 or so ....but what i spend is NOT logic driven ,not exactly sure what it is ...that is the wild card in looking at complete suctions

popsike.com can be quite helpful, e bay completed sales (just gives for last 90 days) also as noted.

Out of curiosity, does Nauck publish any such guide of past auctions?

Actually that sums it up best.

Docks was likely the best attempt but eBay knocked the wheels off of it. Now prices seem to be settling back down.

eBay is not going to be reliable for this much longer as they're starting to want to redirect you to a current listing from sold listings.

yep the app still has completed listings but they want to be Amazon so bad some day that will change too

the re direct is a good tool (sometimes) though I was out bid on an Audio item at the last minute and did a refresh and low and behold the SAME item appeared with a BIN for $50 less :D
