The Philco sounds good ,chassis is only 6 tubes ...I have resisted the urge to put a higher tube count one in the cabinet .I will post more of the manual on arrival :)

startgroove wrote:Don, Yes, that is a very interesting combination. There seems to be some conflicting clues about it being a Capehart, and that is what I'm trying to figure out. I see that the page from Rider's does mention the Capehart changer, yet when I compare the dimension of the upper back part of the 690 cabinet shown in the line drawing to the dimension of a cabinet that houses a Capehart changer (see photos below), it does not look like the upper part of the cabinet in the line drawing is deep enough to house the taller Capehart changer.

In addition, the Rider's page references a Capehart 10-12C, a later version of that changer which appeared in other brands around 1932. (Skihawx mentions several of them, and I'll add General Motors to that list, which is shown in the photos below.) Yet, the chassis' in the 690 are earlier than that, by years.

It seems a little confusing considering the clues don't add up.
that line drawing in the instruction book is a generic image of the four marques of that foundation chassis.

radiola (86)
westinghouse (WR7)\
general electric H-something maybe 71)
graybar (?)

Same guts, slightly different cabinets different nameplates..I have worked on them all..introduced August 1930 as 1931 models

I think you nailed it. I went over to my barn and pulled out my Westinghouse. In the photo below, you can see the cabinet is a close match to the line drawing shown at the beginning of this thread, and the chassis' are a match. Note, the slanted enclosure at the right side of the cabinet (from the rear view) is there in both. This Westinghouse has a single disc record player. (Yet, I still wonder if a modified cabinet could have carried the Capehart 10-12C changer. Perhaps the line drawing is a generalized view, not necessarily intended to be an exact representation.)

It is identified at RadioMuseum.org as a WR7. Here is a pic of the face of a WR6 and the 2nd pic is of my WR7. It does not look like the WR6 had a phonograph.

So am I. It was hot today, Lori was out in the yard enjoying the sun. I am sure she asked me for ice-water. When I brought it to her, she said "I asked for a flyswatter!"
