Someone on ebay requests EMG information

Post by poodling around »

I just noticed that this ebay person has asked for information about the EMG gramophone he owns.

I assume it is classified as a gramophone and not produced / made too late ? My apologies if this post is inappropriate and if so will of course happily agree to it's deletion.

I just thought that someone who is on ebay could help him /her maybe. Maybe mention this website to join ?

Anyway the link is:

He needs to find a copy of "The EMG Story" by Frank James, long out of print and much sought after.

The Newman Street address was occupied by EMG between 1948 and 1967.

As it's 78-only and doesn't have one of EMG's own high quality pickups (it has a Connoisseur tonearm that takes miniature needles) I imagine it must be late 40s or circa 1950, and one of their lower tier models. Still highly collectable however.

How EMG unusual.
It looks like a double DR28 from 1955.

Ah! He's uploaded more photos since I posted above. Fascinating machine! Hope you can persuade him to sell Chunny, this one's surely up your street if he will.

A silly question probably - but why does the 'label' say "museum" ? Is that the gramophone model name maybe ? Also, the number afterwards I would not have thought would be the production number as too high for an EMG so what is that ?

That's part of the telephone number, the district code.

. Yeah, I'd love to own this machine but really, I would rather he kept it himself. He seems to have had it for a while and is having difficulty getting someone to restore it. Nowadays, getting someone to recap a vintage amp is an expensive operation and one that may in the end drop the machines value. It's just so great to see these wonderful beasts and surprising that they are still turning up.
In the end , I hope he does keep it as they really should be used.
