Having what seems to be a wooden horn in the cabinet, a glass top and looks quite an early model ? Also a patent number.
Assuming it was not 'home made' ?

A mid to late 1920's "assembled" gramophone using bought in components and retailed by Bensted's. The machine on their cover is of course an HMV 145.

Re: Interesting gramophone maybe
Personally, I like this machine. The cabinet is fantastic and if the "glass" under the turntable is actually glass and not plastic, I would leave it as is. I wish it was closer to home, because I would definitely have it in my home...

The turned legs and stretchers along with the carvings on the front are usually only found on high end machines... beautiful woodwork.

I agree with you entirely Curt.
This is so beautiful, well made and unique I think.
However I only collect portables and table top gramophones but if I had to choose a floor standing one then this would be it.

£275 ($357.76 USD, is a no brainer to purchase - it's a bargain) Even if I only collected portables, I would make some room in my home for this machine, it's special...soundgen wrote:Collection only . it will never sell for £275 probably not if was £100
Stick some of your table top or portable machines on top, as a solution... you really need to get this. If you do, you won't regret it...

Oh, that did make me laugh so much in a good way ! A very creative solution.
The one and only floor standing gramophone I bought fairly recently turned out to be riddled with woodworm, crumbled into dust I when hit with a sledgehammer and put me off buying any more for life. The mechanics were great though and I am enjoying creating a pine wood Frankenphone.

Re: Interesting gramophone maybe
It doesn't look like it has woodworms... and it has lots of space on top with the lid closed.
You just need a little push (encouragement) to pull the trigger and buy it.
Seriously, if that cabinet had an HMV or Victor label on it, who knows what it would be worth...
