Unusual logo

Post by poodling around »

I just thought that some people (like me) may not have seen this logo so here it is.

Yes, I can never understand what on earth possessed them to use that logo - stuff of nightmares! Hideous but amusing.

Incidentally I'm "Orchorsol" on here because my first EMG was an original conversion by EMG of exactly that same model of Orchorsol gramophone to a Mk Xb.

This is a high quality machine and well worth saving, even though the soundbox appears to be missing.

Orchorsol won gold and silver medals at the Steinway Hall gramophone tests in 1924, hence "The Gold Medallist" logo. Yes the inclusion of a bawling infant in the logo is revolting, and I have never discovered it's significance.

The other two machines may be more interesting an HMV 511 ? and another early HMV ?

Yes! EMG offered in their advertising to convert the cabinets of customers' old machines to their designs, and I believe examples based on HMVs are known, but this one's a real oddball.

Wow ! What an amazing coincidence ! Brilliant ! Maybe buy the one 'above' so you have 'before and after' examples ? It's all good :)

Oh, I wonder, did EMG remove the original id transfer / logo and replace it with their own ?

Ha ha, I already have one for exactly that reason, but no space for it (even though we're moving to a bigger place) so I'll probably have to sell it when it comes out of storage. They aren't worth much, even though as Epigramophone says, they're quite good performers. I'll try to find photos of the internals which are interesting.

No, it's still there, but now behind the vertical conduit that comes up through the cabinet to the horn socket. EMG put their usual ivorine plaque on the motorboard.
