Does anybody need 5/16” and ⅜” wide phonograph belting?

Post by MicaMonster »

I am almost out of 7/32” leather cylinder phonograph belting, and now am FORCING myself to find the correct leather hide to continue making the stuff.

7/32” is exact for Edisons and smaller European and Graphophone Q and B models, and Class M governors.

5/16” is for the Edison Triumphs, Class M (main drive), Graphophone mid side machines, and some commercial shaving machines.

⅜” is for the BIG cylinder phonographs like the Graphophone BC, and others. Also works on Edison electric shaving machines that take a flat belt.

Please reply to me in this thread, or via PM to tell me your future needs for these widths, so I can determine if I need to pursue cutting the 5/16” and ⅜” belts. Leather is not inexpensive, and I am very picky as to what colors/quality that I purchase.

Thank You

So far, it looks like I really need to get some 5/16” cut. Unfortunately it won’t be in time for the Wayne show. I haven’t found leather suitable yet.

Hi Wyatt,

When you get them all in stock again, I'd be
interested in a few feet of all the available widths.

Thanks,

Chuck

Its a go. Unfortunately the price is going up just a tad, because I want to mend this belt with FEWER splices. To do this, I waste more of the hide in the process. But the final result will be worth it.

Hi MicaMonster -

I hope this thread is not too old to post in. I have a Columbia Type B Eagle. Long ago I bought a "10 belt kit", which I have tons of, though I did lose the instructions/glue (which I believe was just contact glue). Anyways, my first belt is still fine and dandy but I recently got the Eagle's belt cover and there is no way this leather will work. Its to thick.

Will your 7/32” fit the Columbia Type B and allow the belt cover to be mounted?

Shhh, right now I am using a rubber band.... I really want the cover to be on....
