Excelsior Record

Post by Antonian462 »

Good evening everybody ! Finally got my new account activated after my old one got deactivated due to inactivity.

My collecting has slowed Due to me being away in the service for the last 5 years but I still managed to get to some estate sales along the way and brought home a couple dozen or so records to add to the collection. But I’m finally home and ready to get back into the hobby once again! I’ve been collecting 78’s and various phonographs since my junior year in high school so going on 7 years ( I know that’s nothing compared to most of you ) and this is the first time I’ve ever seen this label. Anyone else familiar with the Excelsior label?i know they were based out of Toledo Ohio.

It's a very scarce label (at least in my neck of the woods!). I have found a precious three or four (in the wild) in many years of collecting. Here is a video I posted several years ago on my YouTube channel featuring my playing of one of my Excelsior records. The video has been surprisingly popular with viewers over the years. Interestingly, the title on your record is credited as (presumably) a solo performance by Billy Murray. I'm most familiar with the version recorded on two minute Edison cylinder by Ada Jones and Billy Murray. Nice find!

I have always liked that label. To have one with Billy Murray on it is a plus.

To have one with this song on it would be the ultimate combination :

I have seen this label a couple of times. Not any ever for sale. You are lucky to have one with a popular artist.
