problem with my speed regulator/governor

Post by johnnybgoode1959 »

the speed control on my machine has never worked well ever since I got it. I had to remove the plastic window and use a screwdriver to move the adjustment arm. I'd really like to figure out how to get it working so all I have to do is adjust with the little knob?

It's always better to post detailed pics and state which model you have.

Pictures always help... but, it is up to you to calibrate the pointer, you need to get the turntable running at 78, then set the pointer accordingly (different for different types of pointer). Then you use the knob to adjust if the motor is running a little fast or slow compared to what the calibrated pointer says.

To calibrate you can either get a strobe disc, or you can simply do what Victor recommended and put a marker on the turntable and count the number of complete revolutions in a minute (or 30 seconds and multiply by 2), and use the knob to adjust the speed until it is 78 rpm. then with the motor running adjust the pointer to point to 78 (you usually have to remove the turntable to do that), then you are all set. There is an example of how to do this in this video:
