I've been wanting to make copies of this one available for years but just got outbid at the last second again! So I'm making this desperate plea.... is anyone here willing to loan me a decent copy? I have a pretty comprehensive catalog and surely have something you'd enjoy for the loan.
Thank you.

While I wish good luck and hope that someone will borrow him a copy to make repros, this all comes too late. I wished I could buy a repro or an original to play at WWI centenary commemorations, but now it's too late, the centenary is over.

Re: Gas Shell Bombardment
I have a copy of what I'm pretty sure is a reissue from 1920 on HMV D378, in OK but not top condition, which you'd be welcome to borrow, although the shipping to and from the US would be very expensive indeed - also it may take a few months to surface after my recent house move, with 20,000 78s to accommodate gradually!
Whilst I certainly don't want to pour cold water on this fine idea, and the recording is of course deeply historic, it is quite disappointing to listen to... unlike, in my opinion, say the record of Shackleton speaking (which I don't have) or Dr William T. Grenville's "Adrift on an ice floe in the arctic ocean" from 1911 (which I do).

Re: Gas Shell Bombardment
Thank you for the offer! If the condition is VG+ then it should be sufficient.
It's certainly not an exciting recording, but it is both interesting and desirable. And just to have a copy for myself, I'd be happy to pay for shipping both ways.

Thanks for the lead. I offered 150GBP and it was automatically declined. I'll have to gauge interest before making another offer.
Update; I just posted in Yankee Trader about this. If you're interested in a copy then please reply to that post.

Re: Gas Shell Bombardment
Are the discussion links (below) referring to the same recording as this one I wonder - about whether it is genuine or not ?
Sorry if I misunderstand - just wondering

Re: Gas Shell Bombardment
The thread "Recorded WW1 Sounds" is indeed about this very same record.
The thread "On the eve of the 100th Anniversary of Armistice Day" is instead mostly about a completely fake and artifacted soundtrack that the Imperial War Museum (my gosh) though was smart to release to public making believe it dated back to WWI. The record "Gas Shell Bombardment" is however mentioned later in the thread as a comparison.
