Yes, You should Shellac over the Edison Decal...enough to bury the lip of the decal so that it and the shellac are on the same level...Usually One or Two coats of Shellac will do... I would do a test to see which color shellac will look better...Clear or Amber.. I think Edison mostly used Amber Shellac... but like I said, I would do some tests on some scrap wood and then make a judgement call..

Well I know how much to use, just wasnt sure about the decal situation. I'm doing either 2 or 3 coats of amber shellac and 3 or 4 of clear.

I went ahead and tried Rustolium engine enamel after priming it. Initial impressions are good, have a few blotches from trying to fix a stop, hopefully I can get rid of it by wet sanding. Still have to add shellac and the decal behind the mandrel.

I also found a governer cover with the speed control hole, still have to find a knob for it.

FYI: I just saw a speed control knob on ebay. I don't know the item # but it is listed by Croakinfrog.
