This ebay company seems to have come across many unusual items - maybe belonged to an ex HMV employee ?

Maybe worth a look at what else they have ?

I wonder who RCW Edwards was ?

The soundbox is an "Automatic" which sought to simplify changing needles by using a pre-loaded magazine. Pressing a plunger ejected the used needle and brought the next one into operation, but on the eBay example the plunger is broken and the magazine is missing. Here is mine, in it's original box with instructions :

Very cool epigramophone. Would you happen to have a video of it in action? Does it work well? I would imagine there would be lots of "jams" or "failure to feeds" like in a rifle.

The shield has been remounted on an oval ebonised board but the finish has rubbed off. Shields were presented in 1937 to dealers so RC Edwards was a dealer.

I have a shield presented to a dealer local to me. I bought it from the Lost Street Museum sale in 1997. It is correctly mounted on an ebonised shield shaped back board.

Incredibly the long thin plunger is made of pot metal, and I have never seen one which has survived intact.
Mine is held together with Super Glue, which penetrates the granular structure of pot metal, but is so fragile that any attempt at use would break it.

I do not think it would be kind to records. It is a classic example of an invention which did what few people wanted done.

It bit similar to most ideas pitched today on BBC Dragon's Den.

Oh I see. I think the shield is made from silver (not pot metal) - so it must have been really nice to receive one. Perhaps Harrods received a gold one !
