WANTED: Victor/Gramo Co. 'Short' Back Mount Bracket

Post by jamiegramo »

Hi all,

I'm trying to get the shorter Victor/Gramo Co. back mount bracket for a G&T 12 inch turntable Senior Monarch machine with either nickel or black finish any condition. The machine I have has the slightly longer bracket meant for a 10 inch turntable machine. The tonearm was a standard size so to account for the difference in case size hence the difference in bracket length.

The shorter bracket has a total projection (see picture) of 6 ½ inches (166mm) as opposed to the longer bracket (left of picture) at 7 ¼ inches (182mm).

Just out of interest I spoke to a specialist about this problem especially considering apparently sleepy untouched machines. We assume that the mismatch 'must' have occurred in recent decades but he suggests that the error could have occurred when new. Consignments of 10 and 12 inch machines were sent out to dealers partly dismantled. An assistant was probably left to unpack and assemble these machines. Parts were mismatched and no one really thought about tracking alignment and the mistake would have gone unnoticed!

Any help much appreciated!

Still looking for this part. I have an Edison Standard or Edison Bell Gem for swap, both were attic finds and need restoration.

I am reasonably sure that Ron Sitko sells replacement back brackets. I believe you want a Victor V or VI size.

It's my best guess that mismatched brackets on machines are a recent occurrence done by collectors. Many collectors are unaware of the differences between a Victor III/IV bracket and one for a Victor V/VI. Brackets get moved based on the desire to have the best looking bracket on the more desirable machine.

Jerry, many thanks. I may try to contact Ron Sitko. I am overseas so the time difference makes phone calls difficult from here but perhaps he will answer a letter by mail.

Ron Sitko does use mail. He does not use email or anything with computers.

Let’s be fair to Ron Sitko. He does have email and he can use a computer. It’s just that Ron wants to talk to the person ordering the parts to be sure that he and the buyer are talking about the same part. That way he keeps happy customers by making sure they get the part they need. If you don’t reach Ron on your first phone call, leave a message and he will always call you back.
