If you have all the black & brass, black flowered, or wood horns that you need in your collection, I have a tulip style horn made by the Searchlight Company. The small end of the horn is made for a Victor and it's a perfect size for a Vic III. I would sell it for $150. Jerry Blais

That's a scarce horn - - and far more interesting than the black Victor product.

What is the deal with those searchlights from a marketing perspective?

Was that shape combined with the crenelations supposed to "improve" the sound in some way or were you supposed to be able to use it as a dasher in your wash machine for those hard to get out stains? :monkey:

Thanks Jerry, I actually have no horns at all so I am open for suggestions.
I just sent you a PM.

Here are a couple of advertisements from the Talking Machine World describing Searchlight horns. The first is from June 1906; the second is from March 1907.

Thanks George, Now I know. "Constructed on scientific principles to project the sound in a parallel direction. NO Rattling!" Ah ha!

My Vic III is loud without a horn. With that thing on it, it will
probably blow me out of the room.

I'm sure it will be a noticeable improvement whichever type you choose.

Personally I like the looks of brass bell horns the best but the petaled, wooden or the searchlight would probably all give a more satisfying sound. The brass bell horns are more directional.

Searchlights are unusual and the price is reasonable imho and after all, as the advert says, "Constructed on scientific principles to project the sound in a parallel direction. NO Rattling!" . :monkey:
